MADISON, WISCONSIN THIS FRIDAY(R3R APR22)
ROOM3 IS ON THE MOVE! This Friday, in our furthest show away from home yet, we will be performing in the capital of our neighboring state, Wisconsin. Though Madison is new to us, we've played in Wisconsin a couple times already and have always had a great time in the land of beer & cheese.
Our first show in Wisconsin was in Hudson way back in 2023 at The Real Magic House, a beautiful four-story mansion converted into an entertainment venue, during the Room3 and Da Hawnz era with Cyrus Wilson on trumpet and Desmond Teague on sax. We played in the living room to a very receptive crowd. This was an awesome opportunity for us at the time.
Our second gig in Wisconsin was last year for the 2025 Blue Ox Music Festival, a festival that hosts primarily bluegrass acts. This set was an all-time favorite for a few of us. We were the last band to perform on the first day of the festival, taking the stage, which was surrounded by a forest of gigantic trees and glowing psychedelic decor, at 1:00am. It had been a very rainy and muddy day, and right before our set, it started to downpour to the point the tech director told us we had to call it off. Our instruments were all set up on the covered stage, so we asked if we could wait it out for 10 more minutes. A few minutes in, we remembered percussion and drums are acoustic & the bass amp was loud enough to be heard without the help of the main speakers! Beck asked if we could just jam on stage for a few moments for fun. The sound guy agreed. Room3, minus Eli :( , then proceeded to improvise the most badass drum and bass music ever heard by these bluegrass hippies. The crowd was electrified. A few minutes later, the rain dissipated and the tech director told us we could move forward with our set. I suppose even he wanted to hear more. The intoxicated 2:00am crowd was vast and screaming at every moment. We gained some new fans that day. After our set, we then made our way to the blue grass jam and played until the sun rose. Maybe jazz fusion and blue grass aren't so different.
(Blue Ox Music Festival execs if you're seeing this please book us again your festival is awesome)
This Friday, we were invited to play with some of our jazz fusion friends from Wisconsin. I am not sure how they heard about us, but I'm glad they did. The jazz fusion enjoyers of this world need to stick together. We are sandwiched in the middle of two killer Madison-based fusion bands- LOWBOY and Mr. Chair.
