Welcome back to The Room3 Report: An informal newsletter keeping you up to date on all upcoming performances, music releases, merch drops, and general happenings in the world of Room3.

We had our first mini-viral moment the other week on Instagram. Who knew all we had to do was make car noises with our instruments and we'd get 6k+ likes and over 100 followers! I'll attach the video here so you know what I'm talking about.

We've been experimenting quite a bit lately with new forms of content on IG, and it's been interesting to see what works and what doesn't. Fast paced, short-form, easily digestible reels with text on screen seem to do best for mass engagement. Hard to tell if mass engagement translates to any tangible progress for the band at this stage, but any kind of growth in awareness is positive, I suppose.

After some experimentation, our social media strategy has been split into two focal points, or two target audiences. We hope to catch the attention of new eyes and ears with the quick, silly content, and once they are roped in, we promote our music, merch, and shows to them with the more meaningful content. The real ones stick around.

As many modern musicians like to complain—we didn't sign up for this. It would be ideal for us to put all of our energy into writing and performing and not have to think about making car noises with our instruments that we've spent years learning to play. But part of the hustle of being a musician in the digital age is vying for attention in the digital sphere to prove to real-life humans that you are a good band. We will also continue to play good music in person to prove to real-life humans we are a good band. That's the main focus, honestly.

WHAT'S HAPPENING??

Another relatively slow week for Room3. Currently getting a setlist together for our next show at Volsteads on April 16. This one will likely be the closest we'll get to a straight ahead "jazz" set for a while. Pulling out some fun, left-field covers and stripping down some of our original material. We're doing two 50-60 minute sets that night. Guaranteed to be a good time!

NEW DROPS

Recorded music

Album 2 is on the way. Got 9 of 9 songs written and recording dates blocked off for August. Not even going to try to set a due date just yet, but trust, it's coming and it's gonna be good!

Check out our contribution to the "Melt ICE" compilation album for a tiny little taste of some new R3 music.

Concert footage

Got a backlog of three full concerts that we plan to post footage of soon on Instagram and YouTube.

Look up our YouTube channel (@room3collective) to revisit some old live concerts in the meantime.

Merch

New iterations of the classic “Room3” T-shirt will be available at all future shows. Now in Pink and Dark Purple for $30 a pop. “Bill’s Garden” CDs are also available for $10.

WHAT Y'ALL KNOW ABOUT THIS??

One member of the group hand-selects one album and one live concert to highlight, offering insight into its significance (personal or otherwise). All of the artists highlighted in this segment have at least one thing in common: They're innovators. These giants set the standard for what’s possible and what's hip, and they inspired us to keep reaching. We hope they do the same for you.
